Job Description

Who is East Gippsland Water?

East Gippsland Water (EGW) is a regional water corporation which provides essential water, wastewater and recycled water services across the East Gippsland region, supporting communities, businesses and industry over a large and diverse geographic area.

 

Drinking water supply – sourcing, treating and delivering safe, reliable drinking water to towns and communities across East Gippsland, from Lindenow and Bairnsdale through to Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota and as far north as Dinner Plain
Wastewater services – collection, treatment and safe disposal or reuse of wastewater to protect public health and the environment
Recycled water management – operating water recycling schemes to support sustainability and reduce demand on potable water supplies
Infrastructure planning and maintenance – managing dams, treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations and sewer networks across a service area of around 21,000 square kilometres
Customer and community support – billing, customer service, hardship assistance, water efficiency programs and emergency response during events such as droughts, floods and bushfires

Environmental stewardship and compliance – meeting regulatory obligations, protecting waterways and supporting long-term water security for a population of approximately 49,000 people

 

HOW East Gippsland Water delivers essential services

Our departments work together to ensure safe, reliable and sustainable water services for the East Gippsland community.

  • Service Delivery - Responsible for the operational management of water and wastewater systems, ensuring reliable, high-quality service, maintaining infrastructure, and managing emergency responses 24/7. They work across seven operational sites to manage nine water systems and 11 wastewater systems, focusing on meeting customer service standards
  • Infrastructure & Sustainability - Manages long-term planning, design, and construction of water and sewerage infrastructure, including pipelines and treatment plants. They drive sustainability by securing water resources, implementing environmental strategies, and planning for climate change, ensuring resilient, long-term service delivery.
  • Customer, Community and Communications – Manages customer support, hardship assistance, and community engagement, including face-to-face services in towns like Orbost, Omeo, and Mallacoota. They handle billing inquiries, water efficiency education and corporate communication.
  • Business– Ensure operational technology, financial stability, and digital security for water services. The SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) team manages automated control systems, while IT handles digital infrastructure, and Business/Finance manages financial compliance including accounting and payroll services.
  • Governance - Ensures regulatory compliance, manages corporate risk, and supports the Board in strategic planning, adhering to the Corporate Plan and Ministerial expectations.
  • People Safety and Culture - Managing occupational health and safety (OHS) systems, fostering a positive workplace culture, and managing human resources, including recruitment and staff development. They ensure compliance with safety legislation, manage incident investigations, and support employees.

 

Location

East Gippsland Water’s main office is located in Bairnsdale, with services delivered across the East Gippsland Shire. Work experience locations are considered on a casebycase basis and depend on the area of study and department availability.

 

Timing and Duration

Work experience placements are flexible and may range from a short block placement (for example, up to two weeks) to one day per week over a school term. Timing can be scheduled at various points throughout the year, subject to business unit capacity and operational availability.
